The Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) ranked New Zealand third in its World Giving Index, a jump of two places from last year’s ranking.

The annual report, which was published this month, measures countries’ generosity in three categories: helping a stranger, donating money to charity, and volunteering time for an organisation.

According to its findings, the big change driving New Zealand’s jump in the world rankings was more people donating money. The portion of the population who donated to charity increased by 11 per cent on last year.
