Due to the feedback we received from our survey – one of the main areas you’d like to have assistance with is ‘Marketing’. Something you may find helpful straightaway is the advice that non-profit marketing expert Nancy Schwartz (pictured on the left) provides. Some of you may have been fortunate enough to catch her when she spoke at our inaugural conference Marketing by Association.

Although this is a very broad topic, Nancy has developed a really clear non-profit marketing plan template. It is really easy to follow – covering a clear and concise plan for: organisational & marketing goals, what internal and external factors need to be considered; and other key areas you can address right now! Nancy also provides examples for you to follow which really make this a relevant and implementable exercise.
Here is a overview of the things covered in Nancy’s plan:

Your organisation:

  • Goals – organisational and marketing
  • Situation analysis – what is happening within and outside your organisation
  • Call to action – what do you want your audience to do

Your audience and target market

  • What do they care about and how can you connect with them
  • Are there really different segments that you need to consider

Your messages, methods and tactics

  • How do your frame your message
  • What are the best ways to achieve your marketing goals
  • How do you put your methods into action

Putting it together

  • What resources do you need
  • How do you measure your progress
  • Take it step by step – 30 days, 90 days etc
