Jan Dawson, Independent Director and Chair of Westpac New Zealand with comparable credentials as President and Board Chair of Yachting New Zealand has sound advice for somebody aspiring to become an independent director. She recommends getting experience through governance roles in non-profit and sporting bodies to really understand the value one can add to an organisation. She adds that being unable to articulate the value means that you won’t get it.
